After
graduation, I worked as a Social Service Director in a long-term care facility
for over a year. The
position I currently hold is that of Director of Social Services at the
Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council (Center) in Palatine, Illinois. I am a working supervisor so am out in the
“trenches” everyday with my seniors and my staff.
I
also taught part-time at Dominican University for several years in their
gerontology department and occasionally teach at William Rainey Harper Jr.
College in Palatine, IL. Aging Concepts
is the outgrowth of these last two life experiences. I talk to people everyday who suddenly find themselves as
caregivers or who are experiencing the ups and downs of aging themselves. As I try to help them solve the problems
involved and give them heart for the future, I find that the most important
thing I can do in many cases is to just listen. The suggestions and advice on the following pages are what my
seniors and their families have found helpful and our hope is that you will
also.
The
more I work with older adults and the more I age myself, I find that having a
strong spiritual base and a positive attitude are key to successful aging. Our goal was to add a personality to this
site and not just give you another list of something to check out. I have also added some fun pages and hope you
enjoy your visit and come back often. |
